DeutschBonding a rip under the microscope (12x magnification) is the highest discipline of art conservation of canvas damages. All the ripped fibers are reweaved and sometimes the fibers are extended or reinforced. The repaired rip is then retouched on the back side to match in ton and gloss the canvas.
The entire process is done under the microscope.
